Surgery Holdings has provided care to over 4,500 patients since February 2004. A wide spectrum of procedures have been completed, including cataract surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, urological surgery and a large range of orthopaedic surgery, from large and small contracts purchased by commissioners. Activity is sourced from a range of commissioners from longer term choice at referral contracts with PCTs, which have grown recently, to more short term spot purchasing activity from NHS Trusts. More recently the group has begun to provide care to patients with Personal Medical Insurance and to patients wishing to fund their own care.

In the future it is expected that greater levels of activity will be undertaken through Practice Based Commissioning, in primary care, supporting GPs with the management of more of the care pathway in the community. Furthermore a strategic aim of Surgery Holdings is to grow the non-NHS business through the development of self-pay products and the management of greater levels of insured activity.

The activity delivered by Surgery Holdings is done so in partnership with the independent hospital facility provider. Service Level Agreements are entered into by both parties, and agreements are reached about which party will provide which element of the patient's journey through the pathway of care. In the majority of cases Surgery Holdings provides the discussion and negotiations with the commissioner, the pathway development and the patient administration services throughout the journey of care, in addition to the consultant medical staff required to perform the required procedure and supporting medical care. The hospital provider provides the hotel facilities, ward, theatre and outpatient facilities, pharmaceuticals, transport, nursing staff and AHP staff, amongst other elements. Contracts are discussed and areas of responsibility for each party agreed upon, prior to commencement.
